I know what you are thinking. The title has been brought up many times at different places, coffee shops, seminars, magazines, blogs. Its like the in thing! Yet, this post is going to be different. How? Simple. You’ll watch a video
Before, you jump and say YouTube. I’ll say no. Its Vimeo. Anyways, you can always drop in your comments about the weird name later, getting back to the topic, below is the video, I’d like like you all to watch. Its good.
How technology is making our lives complicated
I know, you liked it
The above video was part of promotional videos by Else Mobile. The point is, to some extend its actually true. In simple terms, here’s what I have to say :
- I have become a Twitter (reTweet) addict [Follow me - @vaibhavkanwal]
- I spend 10 hours in front of my laptop [tracked using Wakoopa]
- My online persona revolves around technology related blabber [I googled myself]
- My smartphone is more important to me than my exam admit card [I recently forgot it home for my first university exam (Result awaited!)]
- When I wakeup every morning, I check my email using Push mail, brushing my teeth follows [I am serious]
- Its 9:00AM, and college starts at 10AM and I am writing this post after getting inspired by a video. [Ahh! Well...]
Verdict
I think we need a rehab for obsessive compulsive binary syndrome. No really.
Please say something so that I may feel I am not alone. At-least, give me that sense of HOPE

Aha… Seems you are a bit geekier than me. Dont worry, i fall in the same league too.
Psssttt… I am writing this comment 2 hours before my exam
the 6 points which you have mentioned will suit most of the bloggers
Everyday I get up and look into my computer first, then go for brushing and stuff
Sometimes, I sleep late nigh around 2 or 3 and get up at 12 or 1 afternoon. I’m the guy who takes more leave in my class
You are definitely not alone. But the point here is “how much is too much”. Even I spend more than 12 hours a day with my laptop, but I don’t consider it too much. You still go to college, go to movies, go out with friends right? Just that, the way we spend time at home has changed. Few years back we might have read some books or watched TV, but its different now. So what if we check emails before brushing teeth? (some people drink coffee before brushing)), so what if you are a twitter addict? (so many are movie addicts)
In the constructive sense, I liked your response Raju. Looking at the positive aspect I agree that it isn’t bad till the time its constructive and helps if its productive at the same time. Thanks for sharing your views.
There is nothing wrong in it. Instead of watching tv u r doing something more important and innovative.I like to be called as an addicted to Interent.
Well said Raju!!
Hats off to you and your way of thinking!!
its all about balance, if you able to maintaining it then you are good, else technology will take over you. also, we must agree to the fact that we are not just surfers, we are bloggers and to maintain a successful blog we need to give it time, apart from that the internet is also addictive, which includes browsing twiter and watching videos for hours on youtube which we can’t call specifically working but merely enjoying the net…
all i can say that you are certainly not alone, and its not even bad
Totally agree with Raju. Even, I consider myself a freak geek and addicted to twitter
I love spending most time on Internet!
I am not so much into serious blogging n stuff..so i know where i have to limit myself..one thing bloggers can do is set a schedule..a timetable on the day for themselves and work only according to that..keep the work hours divided into couples of hours..i.e try working in 2-hrs blocks of time..after every 2 hr take a 15-20 min (or maybe even a half hour break) and get off ur comp ..watch TV..listen to music..close eyes..just relax..or maybe even take a nap..!!
I think such ideas that technology is making life difficult are a little unfair. Yes I am a Twitter and Facebook addict but no longer a Email Addict. I may spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen but a lot less in front of the TV.
So yes it changes the way we live but I doubt it actually complicates life too much.
By the way you really forgot your admit card for the exam?
Just 10 hours in front of the laptop? I spend around 8-10 hours in front of a desktop and then come home and spend another 4-5 hours on the laptop
And I suppose if you are doing something constructive, then obsession will only increase your progress rate. Most people who are successful are obsessive.
There are always pros and cons with everything in this world, and there can be a long debate about the merits and demerits of technology in our lives!!
Just keep doing what you feel like!
Wow 11 comments! This comment is going to be a bit long so please bear with me.
@Paritosh : I appluade! Two hours before your exam and you are on a blog! Lol. That’s inspiring.
@srivathsan.GK : I am the guy who always misses the first lecture at college. Once, a teacher remarked, “So, any new sites you discovered today?”
@Uttoran Sen @Deepak @Navin Yup. I agree with Raju also. His comment just very appropriate.
@Aditya : I think older people make an issue out of this and there is a reason for it also. When a consumer faces hardware driver problems on switching from Windows to Linux then yes its complicated! Its no fault of the user.
We have so many Windows Versions to choose from, Starter, Home, Home Premium, Enterprise, Ultimate. I mean come on. People need a break.
@Kevin : Lol. Simply LOL
