Note : This post is in continuation to our previous post – Things I hate about Feedburner Email Subscriptions, so if you have not read the same, I would request you to follow it up here before continuing to read further.

We have (almost) found an alternative to FeedBurner and are testing the NEW E-mail delivery system. Therefore, we would like our readers to volunteer and subscribe to the New Email Subscription system. Please let us know your feedback on the same. If all goes well, we hope to switch to the better Newsletter management system in the coming week.

Nouri.sh – The Free RSS to Email Subscription Service

On my quest to find an alternative to feedburner, I came across some interesting and popular RSS to Email services out of which the following are worth a mention :

  • BeedBlitz
  • PHPList
  • Awber
  • FeedMyInbox

RSS to Email

Finally, I zeroed in on Nouri.sh which is a FREE newsletter service that allows you to convert any RSS feed into an automated email newsletter your readers can subscribe to. So, without much ado, I’d like you to watch the below video to understand how Nouri.sh is different from other similar RSS to Email delivery services.

Things I liked about Nouri.sh

The Free version allows you to have :

  1. Unlimited number of subscribers
  2. Combine multiple RSS feeds
  3. Flexible scheduling
  4. 1,000 emails per month

Which, in my opinion is a very nice list of features. The best I have come across till now. Unlimited email subscribers! I wonder if a small-medium blog would need to send out more than 1000 emails per month. If you do send then, you have easily afford there paid services starting from $29/pm for upto 5,000 emails per month with additional support for custom templates. There are many Plans to choose from.

Creating campaigns is very easy and is a smooth process, it has all the options from the Name, From Email, Scheduling, Time of Delivery and a template (available in Paid version).

Importing and Managing Subscribers

One of my main concern with switching between different Email Newsletter Providers is the transfer of existing subscribers over to the new service. This has again been taken care by Nouri.sh and there are a couple of ways of doing it, even adding them manually or importing from a list.

Verdict

I think Nouri.sh looks very promising and is a potent solution to most of the problems of FeedBurner Email Subscriptions which is used by most publishers at the moment. Its fairly new service, so its early to say anything on the reliability front but its worth a try.

Please Subscribe to the New Newsletter of Programming Kid distributed by Nouri.sh , if our readers give positive feedback, we’ll switch from the current FeedBurner subscriptions to Nouri.sh

Good to hear that you have found an email subscription service which match your needs. I would have tried it but I am pretty content reading RSS feeds in google reader for now.

I’ll let you know my experiences with Nouri.sh as you wanted to know what would happen to the subscribers. I plan to import the list to Nouri.sh. Will confirm if its a smooth ride.

Thanks for the review and kind comments. I’m happy to help anyone looking to replace feedburner (or any other enewsletter tool) to move to Nourish. You can also easily track traffic to your website (from links in your newsletter) as we’ve incorporated Google URL builder into the links. We’ve also made it easy to add subscribers, by creating a Wordpress Widget so subscribers to your campaigns can easily add themselves.

Would watch this space for updates on the service as an E-mail subscriber asked me when they would be getting E-mails and I want that option to be either set by me and passed on to them or for them to choose themselves. Thanks :)

Your welcome Tanuj :) I think Nourish would work just fine as I am in the process of evaluating it and it seems to be working great! Will make the switch in a few days from now.

MailChimp also looks nice, thanks for the suggestion. You have made the decision – making a little difficult now :)

Mailchimp is good But..

You’re limited to 500 subscribers (and upto 3000 emails) a month on the free plan. Whereas with Nourish you get unlimited subscribers and 1000 emails per month, but you are limited to 1 campaign.

Mailchimp is more intended for email buletins and one off campaigns, although it does do RSS feed Newsletters, however this was not its main purpose.

Mailchimp is double the price on some payment plans! For example 5000 emails with Mailchimp will set you back $50, with Nourish its just $29.

The Nourish team will give you hints and tips on how to improve your campaigns, from formatting your feed, to including retweet buttons, to improving open rates. Mailchip tips are not specific to your campaigns.

Nourish newsletters look good on an iPhone, whereas the templates are a bit hit-and-miss from Mailchimp.

Nourish will soon be offering a library of designer templates to choose from.

Thanks for your comment and explanation Dan. As I see it, MailChimp has quite a few uses and its more mature. It remains to be seen how Nourish delivers in the months to come though I am hopeful it would be great :)

Mailchimp also offers integration with various other services and free templates while Nourish offers templates only in a paid plan. For me the extra 2000 mails from mailchimp do not make much of a difference as I can cap the delivery of emails with Nourish to say min. 3 per post. So, for every 3 posts. 1 email gets delivered. On the major upside : The paid plan is really economical at $29!

Heads Up! w00t for Norish. I am moving over to you guys.
Suggestion : Please try to integrate the same with feedburner so that the feedcount from Feedburner does not drop. In this case, say I move over 30 email subscribers, my feedburner count will drop for those that have migrated or will subscribe in future. Awber does it. If Nourish also provides the same feature. It'll be icing on the cake :)
