Secure Your Google Account using SMS

Many of us use Google services like Gmail, Adsense, Orkut, Books, Picasa etc . Google manages your account login using Google Accounts.

One – Password Dilemma

The good : You do not have to remember different passwords for these services by Google.

The bad : If someone gets to know your password, the security of all of your accounts is compromised!

To solve this problem, Google has provided an efficient mechanism through which the password recovery process becomes easy for the actual owner while more cumbersome for  someone trying to gain unauthorized access.

How do people Hack Google accounts

To clear the myths surrounding passwords being hacked. I would like to say that it is nearly impossible to HACK a Google password from Google servers. So, if you have a strong password. The chances of your password being hacked are very very minuscule provided :-

• You have not shared the password with ANYONE
• You do not fall for any phishing attempts
• You have a valid alternate primary email which only you have access to and the above two rules apply to this too

If the above mentioned 3 steps are followed. I don’t think hacking is possible. 90% the so called hacking is done via Phishing. A more correct term would be Social Engineering or truth would be using your own foolishness rather than the hackers smartness.

How to you Secure Google account using SMS

Step 1. Head over to the Top-right corner on the screen after opening Google.com to Settings->Google account Settings

Step 2. In the Profile page that opens, navigate to the Personal Settings section and choose the Change password recovery options

Step 3. You would be presented with this page with 3 ways to recover your password: Email, SMS, Security Question

Whenever someone tries reset your password, you would be sent a SMS on your mobile phone. A password reset email would be sent to the mentioned email address after you answer the security question correctly.
