Have you tried one of the several WP news letter plugins? They do exactly what you describe you're in need of with minimal skill necessary.

Hi Praveesh

Its easy to transfer feeds. In feedburner, after loggin-in you change the feed address to the new domain and all the things would be taken care off.

Funny how different users want different things! The people that support these apps and take feature requests must pull their hair out.

I completely disagree on point one. I have a site with an 'announcements' page, which I would like Feedburner to email to subscribers INSTANTANEOUSLY as soon as an announcement is posted. Unfortunately I am left with having to select Feedburner's preselected time slots for delivery, at daily intervals. Why can't they have an option for instantaneous delivery? I know Feedburner has the Pingy thingy, but I can't get that to work either.

Nice analysis.

I agree with some of your points like welcome mail. But manual e-mail confirmation is something i won't approve of. Anyway a nice article. Do let us know if you come across some free alternative.

I think mailchimp is a good start. Aweber is expensive but offers good feature set

Nice discussion! I was getting very confused on choosing feedburner for my email subscribers.

I'm looking to go with mailchimp or aweber. Can anyone give some pointers on which one should i choose?

I tried PHPList which is a self hosted Email Newsletter Service based on PHP. Its good but the learning curve it steeap and is best suited for programmers only. Its Open Source and lots of customizations can be done. Though, its needs to be tweaked before it can be used for RSS to email subscriptions.

As such, if you can handle it. Its nice. I myself am on a lookup for alternatives and will keep you posted Kevin. Bookmark this post for updates.

I read some posts about why it is bad to use feedburner. Some of them make a good point that feedburner is a third party service. So if it shuts down, you end up losing all of your readers. And it it runs in hundreds or thousands, you are in trouble. So it is better to use your own feed hosted on your own server even if you cannot get a fancy chicklet counter to display. That has left me confused as to what I should do. Should I continue using feedburner or should I switch back to using my original feed. What about my subscribers? If I do revert back how do I make it the least painful to them?
