Google Reader is my preferred choice when it comes to an online Feed Reading client.Though Google Reader has a sharing feature from which your followers can access the articles shared by you.I was in search of a tool which allows me to tweet those shared articles to my twitter account.
How to share Feeds from Google Reader
If you like an article on a subscribed feed then you can share it using the “Share” button after every article in Google Reader.
On clicking Share or Share with note, Google Reader published it to your public RSS feed. This public RSS feed can then be used by your friends and in synced with your followers on their respective Google Reader.
How to sync with Twitter
Using the above generated RSS Feed by Google Reader,Reader2Twitter publishes those as tweets to your twitter account. It works seamlessly and is also very quick. After sharing an article, it appears in your twitter timeline within a few seconds.
With Reader2Twitter you can :-
- Real-time sync your Google Reader shared item to Twitter
- Auto shorten link using j.mp’s service by bitly
- Format you sync tweet using parameter
- Using Google Reader to tweet
- 3 sync types
Reader2Twitter is based on the pubsubhubbub protocol to make sync real-time and uses Google App Engine to host the application on Google Servers. It is similar to the MytextNotes application I made on Google App Engine.
Do you sync shared items on Google Reader with Twitter? I tried a couple of PHP scripts earlier but it did not work for me. Any suggestions?

This is a good functionality to get your favorite reads from Google reader to twitter but I wonder about the security of such applications. You need authentication from twitter. And also your google reader id. So should you go for it or not?
It uses Twitter Authentication using its API. Though I from a third person’s perspective can not be too sure about the safety but as far as the Twitter Authentication is concerned its nicely implemented. The Google Reader ID is used for public RSS Feeds only so I dont think it should be a cause of worry as RSS is itself visible to all and posses no inherent security threats.
I have been using Reader2Twitter from the last 2 weeks and have had no issues till now.
This looks promising and cool apps. Will look forward. BTW, thanks for sharing.
