Convert your Inbox into a managed Offline Feed Reader

A couple  of days back I pointed out the Problems with reading Feeds. How having multiple feeds is a problem due to the daily ritual of following up with the updates.

Some of us, subscribe to the email version of these feeds to make it a little more convinient to access them and make them part of our daily inbox-check routine, still there are some problems with feeds via email also.

Today, I’ll talk about a hybrid method which lets you subscribe to RSS but get them delivered my email. How this is different from subscribing via email is that you really subscribe to email updates! You just use the RSS and then the updates are sent by a third-party to your email, once email a day with all updates at the same time everyday!

So, no more mixing of personal and work emails.

Head to FeedMyInbox.com and just enter the Website/Blog URL and your email address. FeedMyInbox will search for available Feed and display you the options, confirm the email received and you are done. Yes, its that simple. You can also create an account to manage multiple feeds and to export them as OPML file.

I use the service for around 60 RSS feed and all updates are delievered to me Date wise around 10 AM each day! It’s a great help. Then, I read those whenever I feel like in my free time from my BlackBerry.

Managing subscribed Feeds from FeedMyInbox

Here is a screenshot of how Feed updates are received in my inbox.

Reading Feeds from Inbox

As you can see, the subject line contains the Date followed by the Website / Blog the Feed belongs to, Here, I have on purpose hidden those details but thats how the whole thing works.

Its very useful in my opinion and keeping track of your feeds is very easy this way.

I have created a different email for this purpose, I use feeds[at]vaibhavkanwal.com , you can create a similar one if you have your own domain or something like yourname_feeds@gmail.com or any good Email service.

Note : FeedMyInbox would be going paid from 9 January 2009 and I am also in search of a good alternative, They would have a free account for 5 feeds but in my opinion that’s very limited. @denharsh suggested chimpmail.com, I’ll give the same a shot and revert back.

I tried FeedBlitz but they deliver only one email for all updates. That’s kind of messy and the email may get truncated after some length. So, I am on a lookout. If you have any similar Free alternative in mind so share with us using comments below.
