Spot on!

RTFM dudes, nobody learnt any programming from books, maybe compiler design, but surely not application software ;) my advice is that you go to sourceforge and check out the projects that interest you, join the mailing list, and offer to contribute on the code documentation, you might get very smart people from around the globe to interact with. The learning curve is a little steeper, but you feel really motivated when the guy on the other side of the email is a real smart programmer. Also, a steeper learning curve also tends to top out faster!

Just to share my experience, i absolutely detest and hate all teaching shops, right from the 10th-12th coaching dens to the IIT-JEE, MBA, Engineering, typing, dance, and even the gyms. You are very right that if these faculty people were really qualified, they wouldn't be working in a two room coaching adda. Let alone teach you, they themselves do not understand the true nature of what they are teaching. Say for example a gym instructor who knows nothing about hydration and nutrition.

The only shop course I ever attended was an RHCE training from DSK infotech, the guy teaching could barely speak any english, RHCE ref material is pretty comprehensive, but you're basically on your own other than the short speeches by the trainer. I left after a few classes and wasting 18000/- as i felt I knew more than the trainer! And I never needed the certification to make it to a good job. And I actually look down at people who say they have RHCE, SCJP, CCNP etc, as I can imagine the shops where they got this.

Take for example the MCP, CCNP who couldn't answer my question about how to make sure netbios is passed between VLANs, since they have different broadcasts.

I'm pretty sure no one taught Linus Torvalds, Alan Cox, RMS, Minsky, Ritchei, Kernighan, Stroustrup and all the REAL programmers what REAL GOOD code looks like.

No pain no gain! and hope you learn lots of languages and systems! Best wishes.

Hi,
Well any training institute cannot substitute for the graduation/post graduation courses. But remember you cannot expect to learn about Java 6 and Spring in your college syllabus. NIIT too will teach you only Java 6 Basics and Java EE (EJB, Hibernate, Struts or some Spring) but not always the latest version. They just provide you the props and bridges with what is on demand in the industry.
You need to create your own agenda, create your own samples and see if you can deliver that with your programming ability. Think of creating your own intranet diary of events. create a good document briefcase using Tomcat and Java. While you try samples never use third party kits, like using PHP BB bulletin board as such. These wont let you create your own programs.
Remember Applying Computer Knowledge to get solutions is different and programming is different. Programming you try to hone your skills and develop your very own code, While if you are able to assemble packages and software kits to get solutions, that will not help unless you aspire to get a career in a product development company to market your product with extendable api wrappers to your clients.
Let me cut short here, all in all at NIIT you get a breather time to say I am learning and I follow a course and I do it sincerely. Use it wisely.

Harleen,
Low marks in academics well if you are above 50% well you will get good MNCs after 2 years. TCS hires with 50% for laterals. This NIIT course well do it with sincerity not just for job, treat it as your life opportunity. Get into some small company that gives you opportunity to code. NIIT can get you the interviews just a couple of them, or join some start ups that asks for 1 -2 year bonds and demands coding. Getting paid less in the initial years does not hurt knowing that they are grooming you to face challenges ahead. One you complete 2 years and with solid programming knowledge you will be invincible. All is well and all the best. Its not NIIT alone its your effor that matters! its you and your potential thats vital.

Do you really think I need a placement from NIIT?
If you'd have paid some attention you'll know that I was there to do short-term course on Java only. I was not interested for their long-term programs.

I am pursuing my MCA and NIIT doesn't come even close. Placement is and was the last thing on my mind.

hi every one.. I had completed my MCA this year.. But cause of low criteria in my grads.. m unable to give interview of any company.. now a days every company is coming with a criteria of 60 or 70 percent.. I can do programming of java and oracle both very well but still want to join NIIT j2ee course for placement only.. So I just want to know whether this course of NIIT will work for me or not..

Regards..

Amit,
I only say that the core course is fine and better than most other institutes in India (Note: NIIT is not better than any of the colleges or Universities by any means). I hated the Computer @ home series of CDs they made and the worst was the Computer they sent my home with 4GB HDD and Celeron 400Mhz those days. Apart from that if you are serious about your career, NIIT gets you a good number of Organizations to get you a job. They kept their promise for me.
Apart from that they are one of the Chain of Franchisee runners for sure.
As a student one needs to look for what is best for them. In this case you should know best what you expect from NIIT.
